Tuesday, February 2nd is Woodchuck Day in Vermont!

For a few years now, folks throughout Vermont have been holding various Woodchuck Day celebrations on February 2nd – the most notable being the WDEV Woodchuck Day Competition and live broadcast at Rusty Parker Memorial Park in Waterbury. Phil and the folks in Pennsylvania haven’t been the biggest fans, but hey – in Vermont we do what we want! Because in Vermont, a woodchuck is a hearty Vermonter, a Vermont made hard cider, and an animal sometimes referred to as the groundhog.

So, folks at WDEV, Woodchuck Draft Cider, Ski Vermont, and a collection of Vermont ski resorts and Vermont restaurants have joined together to help make Woodchuck Day the official holiday celebrated in Vermont on February 2nd! We’re hoping additional Vermont media will come on board and help us spread the word to all Vermonters – February 2nd is Woodchuck Day in Vermont! And, as legend goes, the woodchuck will look for his shadow – and we’re rooting for six more weeks of great skiing and riding in the state that owns winter in its original state!

Woodchuck Day Celebrations will be taking place throughout next week beginning with the Woodchuck Day Competition at 7 am at Rusty Parker Memorial Park in Waterbury and ending with some fantastic après ski parties next weekend at resorts such as Jay Peak and Mount Snow. The Disco Biscuits will continue the tradition of bringing cutting edge acts to Mariaville, New York, when Camp Bisco 9, the ninth annual three-day music and arts festival, returns this July 15-17, 2010. As hosts of Camp Bisco, one of the country's largest and longest running electronic/rock music festivals, the Disco Biscuits have continued to bring a myriad of talent to the scene in recent years, including: Nas and Damian Marley, Snoop Dogg, Kid Cudi, Thievery Corporation, DJ Shadow, MSTRKRFT, The Roots, Asher Roth, James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem, STS9, Girl Talk, Shpongle, Younger Brother, Bassnectar, and !!!. This 2010 lineup will include three nights of the Disco Biscuits with over 50 more acts from around the World.
Camp Bisco 9 will once again be held at the picturesque Indian Lookout Country Club in Mariaville, New York. The venue is located approximately 20 minutes travel time from Albany, New York and sits on 200 acres of rolling, grass fields. Additionally, Camp BIsco 9 will be expanding this year to include: a second stage in the main field, an improved location for the DJ and late night dance tent - complete with a surround sound system, a local artists stage and a performance art stage.


Pre-sale tickets go on sale Friday, January 29th at 10 a.m. for a limited time only and begin at $115. A second tier of early bird tickets will be available in limited quantities, Friday February 5th at $135, before general admission tickets are offered starting at $155. Products We Love! Upcycled Wine Bottles from COWHORN Vineyard

COWHORN, a small Applegate Valley winery whose early releases are earning big national praise, just sent its first shipment of 1000 used wine bottles to The Green Glass Company where they will be upcycled into heirloom goblets, pitchers, tumblers, vases, and votives. From the Mayor of New York to the King of Spain, Green Glass Company goblets can be found on the dining tables of wine lovers the world over who want to enjoy new wine in old glass.


In a complementary program, the Ashland Food Co-op, Southern Oregon’s first and only Certified Organic retailer, has partnered with COWHORN, the up-and-coming wine region’s first and only Certified Biodynamic® estate winery, to convert used corks into reusable, compostable wine packs guaranteed to contain a minimum of 99% recycled content. Corks collected at the Co-op’s Ashland store and the estate’s Applegate Valley tasting room are sent to Corvallis-based Western Pulp, a company known for making high-quality biodegradable packaging and planters from recycled pulp.


At COWHORN, even the soft metal bottle cap covering the cork gets a new life through Rogue Recycling. The winery invites Rogue Valley residents to recycle torn tins and natural corks from any winery and used COWHORN bottles at its Applegate Valley tasting room.


“Everything in nature flows in cycles, and there really is no such thing as waste,” says Barbara Steele, co-owner of COWHORN Vineyard & Garden. “It’s not enough for us to endeavor to grow great grapes and produce world-class wine. Being Biodynamic is also about closing all of the loops and that means taking responsibility for our packaging. We provide our local community a way to upcycle glass and recycle corks, and hope to inspire other wineries and wine lovers to do the same in their region. One of the greatest aspects of the emerging Biodynamic wine world is that there is genuine spirit of friendly competition in an all out race to the top to do the right thing.”
